Model's first interview since propeller accident

A Texas model who lost her hand in a plane propeller accident has credited her religious beliefs for getting her through the ordeal.

Lauren Scruggs, 24, was struck by a moving propeller after taking a trip with friends, in December, and lost her eye and part of her left arm.

But the fashion blogger has made a remarkable recovery and with the help of prosthetics is learning to adapt to her disability.

She made her first public appearance since the accident on NBC's Today show, which is being broadcast in London for the Olympic Games, and said she was feeling "good" and no longer need pain relief.

"Even though I've lost my left eye, I've just realised the Lord has a strong purpose in it, and I need to use that," she said.

"Emotionally, days are hard sometimes, just accepting the loss of my eye and hand. "But it just gets better and I realise God's in control of my life and there's a purpose to this story."

Scruggs has written a book about her experience called Still Lolo: A Spinning Propeller, A Horrifying Accident, and a Family's Journey of Hope. It will be released in November.
