Robert Moffat, who became one of Scotland’s big lottery winners after scoring $1.17 million in 1996, has revealed he now can’t even afford to pay a drink-driving fine.
Moffat, who barely escaped jail after being caught driving more than five times the legal limit, was sentenced to 200 hours unpaid work and banned from the road for five years.
“I had a much easier life before this happened,” Moffat, who now lives on benefits, told The Daily Mail.
“After my win, everyone was chasing me for money, even the banks.
“If I could go back to my life I would. I wish I'd never won this to be honest.”
The former barman – who admitted spending all the lottery money on houses, cars, holidays and diamonds – said all he wants is a job.
“I had a pub in Denny, but I lost it two years ago, and have been unemployed since,” Moffat revealed.
“Mr Moffat has had a particularly hard time over the past year or so,” his defence solicitor, Dick Sanderman, said.
“He lost everything he had in his business and his wife and he split up.”Sponsored links
