Young soccer player dies

The West Australian February 23, 2012, 12:30 pm

A young female soccer player has collapsed in front of shocked team mates and died.

Britain's Daily Mail reports 22-year-old Jenny Kerwood from Essex died in hospital.

She had no apparent health problem and the cause of her death is unknown.

The tabloid reports the young player had hoped to become a journalist and posted articles online about her favourite soccer team Leyton Orient.

Rival teams held a moment's silence during the weekend and fixtures for her team, Hutton FC ladies, were postponed. Hundreds of tributes have appeared on social networking websites from fellow soccer fans.

Jenny's father Martin described his daughter as a "loving, kind girl".

"Even if she had not been my daughter we would still have wanted to have known her," he said.
