Water bombing helicopters are helping fire crews battle a blaze in Joondalup parkland.

The scrub fire in Neil Hawkins Park was reported just before 3.10pm. The fire started between Spinebill Loop and Shovler Terrace.

The bushfire is moving slowly in a north-easterly direction towards the lake and is out of control. Flames are four metres high.

The fire is on Department of Environment and Conservation land but Fire and Emergency Services Authority crews and the helitacs are also on the scene.

No homes are under threat.

A number of roads have been closed including Spinebill Loop.

Motorists should avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site.
