Hiker dies in Lennard Gorge

FLIP PRIOR, The West Australian June 29, 2010, 4:48 pm

An elderly man who collapsed and died at the bottom of Lennard Gorge yesterday afternoon is most likely to have died of natural causes, according to police.

The 66-year-old had been hiking with family in the gorge, two hours drive from Derby, when he collapsed.

The group set off an EPIRB prompting police to send personnel in a helicopter, while others rang emergency services on a satellite telephone.

Senior Sgt Mike Wells of Derby Police said there was nothing suspicious about the man's death.
