Pay rorts claim 60 health jobs

Sixty WA Health Department employees, including 23 doctors and 18 nurses, have either been sacked or quit as part of the agency's investigation into fraudulent salary packaging claims.

Acting director general of health Kim Snowball confirmed today that the department's 16-month audit had now wound up and all those investigated had received letters regarding the outcome of claims of misconduct.

Some of the misconduct was believed to have involved the photocopying of restaurant and other receipts by staff who then used them to make bogus claims as part of a general salary sacrifice scheme offered to 21,000 employees.

Mr Snowball also announced a raft of changes to that scheme, which will come into effect next month.

They include an annual limit of $10,000 for each fringe benefits tax year and a requirement that all purchases be made by a debit meals card issued to employees.
