Petrol prices drop below $1

For the first time in six years, unleaded petrol will be selling at below $1 a litre at some Perth service stations tomorrow.

Fuel Watch have reported three Caltex Woolworths stations – at Joondalup, Warnbro and Canning Vale – will be selling petrol at 99.8c per litre.

Another three Coles Express sites – in Forrestfield, Duncraig and Wanneroo – will be charging 99.9c per litre.

FuelWatch said tomorrow’s average price of 104.6 will be lowest since December 23, 2008.

And motorists have not been able to get petrol below $1 since January 17, 2009.

The lower Perth price is directly linked to the global oil benchmark, which has recently dropped below $US50 a barrel.

WA Motor Traders Association chief executive Stephen Moir has predicted that petrol prices could hit their lowest level in 15 years.

Mr Moir said recentlyt that the oil industry was looking at a perfect storm as countries kept up or even increased production, putting a price of $30 a barrel in the ball park if the trend continued.
