Police are hunting an intruder who grabbed a young mother by the throat and threatened her with a large knife after he forced his way into her Hammond Park home last month.

The armed man confronted the 20-year-old mother-of-two when she went to investigate a noise outside the house on Tuesday, August 26, at about 11.20am.

As she walked into the kitchen, the man came through the laundry door of the Barfield Road home wielding a large knife.

Police say the intruder grabbed her around the throat and demanded she take him to the front door.

She told him where the front door was and he grabbed the back of her shirt, walked her to the door and demanded she open it, police said.

When she did open the door, the man pushed her to the ground and then ran to the end of the cul-de-sac and jumped a fence to escape.

The intruder had a 5cm scar running down his right cheek and is described as being skinny, aged 23 to 27, about 178cm tall, with dark brown hair and dark eyes. He was wearing a grey and black checked hooded jumper and black cotton track pants.
