Beach bars to revitalise coast

Perth's picturesque coastline will soon become home to at least four new beach bars, with a range of food and drink venues planned for Scarborough, Hillarys, Trigg and Fremantle in the coming 12 months.

A bar and restaurant with a big alfresco area overlooking Scarborough beach is the latest addition to the foreshore's redevelopment and will open within the Rendezvous hotel complex in November or December.

The pub, to be called The Squire's Fortune, will be run by the Kapinkoff family, who also own the Generous Squire microbrewery in the city.

Manager Adam Kapinkoff said it would offer a relaxed, informal vibe, with a focus on craft beers and quality food.

"There will be some unique materials and design elements, like polished concrete and brass bar tops. We're down on the beach so we want people to feel comfortable and relaxed," he said.

Further north, the Kailis family is planning a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of its Kailis Beach Cafe in Trigg.

Managing director George Kailis said the venue, formerly the Trigg Island Cafe, would be transformed into a major food and beverage destination with unrivalled ocean views.

"Our family has been up that way since 1931, we know the area very well," he said. "We're looking at creating something iconic, classic, something that is a destination for locals and tourists and is very family friendly."

Mr Kailis said the venue, which is due to open mid-next year and will include a cafe and espresso bar, a casual dining seafood barbecue grill and a bar, would revitalise one of Perth's prime oceanfront locations.

In Fremantle, the former Fishermen's Co-Op building at Bathers Beach is being transformed into a tavern, cafe and function centre by the owners of Cicerello's and Char Char Bull.

It is understood the redevelopment will involve a big upstairs alfresco deck overlooking the ocean.

A new "Little Creatures-style" eatery and brewery, to be called 3Sheets, is due to open at Hillarys Boat Harbour in the next few months.

The owners are currently advertising for staff to work in the "family restaurant with a relaxed, friendly and quirky atmosphere".
