Man hit with axe in park attack

A man was hit in the back o with an axe and almost paralysed in a mid-morning attack at a Balga park.

Police say the man was at Barry Britton Reserve and preparing to play in a football match about 11am on Saturday, April 5 when he become involved in a fight with another man.

The victim was hit with the axe during the fight.

He was hospitalised for four days and was almost paralysed.

The offender is described as being in his early 30s, 196cms tall, with a solid build and a goatee beard.

He was wearing a dark t-shirt and black shorts.

Police said there were several people in the area at the time.
