Marco de Campi makes ice-cream. It's what he does and it's what his family have done for 27 years.
But in recent years, he was forced to spend a lot of time organising deliveries in the face of Perth's worsening traffic jams.
"We used to do all of our deliveries ourselves," Mr de Campi said yesterday. "But it just got more and more difficult to get goods delivered on time, with all the congestion and all the roadworks.
"So we restructured the company and we don't employ drivers anymore.
"Instead, we have contracted a distributor. It was taking too much of our time. Time that should have been spent making ice-cream."
Mr de Campi said roadworks near his Azzura Gelatti company in O'Connor were also having an impact on his business, particularly for deliveries to and from Canning Vale.
"But my pet hate is traffic lights," he said. "Traffic lights in Perth are used for traffic control rather than traffic management."They make no sense. And right-turning arrows should be removed. There is nothing more frustrating then sitting at a red arrow when there is no traffic coming."
