Premier, doctors disagree on medical school

Premier Colin Barnett has criticised the Australian Medical Association's WA branch for its opposition to a proposed Curtin University medical school in Midland.

"I cannot for the life of me understand why the AMA would oppose training for home-grown, local West Australians as doctors," Mr Barnett said.

AMA WA president Richard Choong said an increase in medical students would place more pressure on the health system because there were insufficient training places in hospitals.
