16yo charged over Geraldton school fire

UPDATE 8.45am A 16-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated burglary and criminal damage.

Firefighters were called to Waggrakine Primary School, in Geraldton’s northern suburbs, just after midnight on Saturday after they were alerted to the blaze by education security.

A police spokeswoman said inquiries were ongoing in relation to the fire which caused $700,000 damage, with fire and smoke damage to the reception area, administration area, conference room and staff room.

The 16-year-old youth will appear in the Geraldton Children's Court on Friday March 1, 2013.
