Weather change cuts power

Phoebe Wearne, The West Australian February 22, 2013, 10:17 pm

About 20,000 households were without power last night after "unique" weather conditions caused faults in the Western Power network across Perth.

There were more than 150 pole-top fires in the metropolitan area.

A Western Power spokeswoman said the faults had been caused by a sudden drop in temperature and light rain after a long hot period.

The worst affected areas were Hamilton Hill, Balcatta, Bassendean, Atwell, Coolbellup and Eden Hill.
