Leeuwin waits for swimmers

The Sail Training Ship Leeuwin II will again be waiting at the 1500m mark of the Rottnest Channel Swim to greet the 2300 swimmers taking part in Saturday's crossing.

Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation chief executive Anne-Marie Archer, who is new to the role, said the tall ship would be moored at the point where swimmers needed to connect with their support boats on race day.

"The Leeuwin adds a wonderful atmosphere to the start of the swim and it's a target that is hard to miss, even for the most errant of navigators," Rottnest Channel Swim Association president David Corney said.
