A telephone call to a car hire business in rural Victoria has cast further doubt over claims that disgraced whistleblower Ashton Foley left Australia for the US last week.
_The West Australian _understands that Mrs Foley - exposed as a wanted woman with several aliases - called the car hire firm last week promising to return on Monday a car she had hired from them.
But the former Peel Health Campus senior executive, who has four children in Australia, failed to show up at the Europcar office in Bairnsdale, three hours east of Melbourne.
Mrs Foley is now the subject of a WA fraud squad investigation. Two police officers from Victoria were waiting at the car hire company to question her about a separate allegation she is facing in that State.
The 40-year-old had been living in Lakes Entrance in Victoria until last week, when _The West Australian _ revealed details of her past in the US and she confessed to Seven News she was wanted for fraud.
She was forced to quit her latest job as chief executive of Orbost Regional Health, but claimed she had only one outstanding matter in the US, where she was born.In November, Mrs Foley was hailed a courageous whistleblower for handing over documents about PHC and giving evidence to a parliamentary committee.
