A 19-year-old Midland man has been charged over a fire at a Guildford charity shop.

Police allege the man set fire to furniture outside the People Who Care shop on James Street about 2.45pm on Tuesday and the fire spread to the roof of the veranda and into the shop front.

The blaze caused more than $100,000 damage and the People Who Care shop lost almost all its stock.

The store was forced to close for at least a fortnight and staff requested no donations be made until it reopens

The 19-year-old man has been charged with criminal damage by fire and is due to appear in Midland Magistrate’s Court today.
