PLC student is world-class

At just 15, Presbyterian Ladies College student Marissa Loh has achieved a near-perfect International Baccalaureate score, making her eligible for almost any university in the world.

Marissa, who skipped two years of primary school, scored 44 out of a possible 45 points. She was one of nine girls in PLC's first group to study the globally recognised diploma instead of the WA Certificate of Education.

PLC deputy principal Keith Anderson said Marissa's score put her in the top one per cent of the thousands of students who did the IB worldwide. The global average score was 30.

Marissa said the diploma offered a broader education than the WACE because she had to study six subjects, including maths and a language.

Speaking from Adelaide, where she was playing violin at the Australian Youth Orchestra national music camp, she said she had been offered places at universities in Britain and was tossing up between studying biomedicine at Melbourne University or medicine and music at Sydney University this year.
