An Innaloo shop assistant was punched in the face while confronting a shoplifter.

Police said the would-be thief entered the sporting footwear store just after 11am yesterday and took a pair of Nike sneakers off the shelf.

When a 28-year-old member of staff attempted to stop him, the shoplifter punched him in the head, before dropping the sneakers and fleeing the store.

The offender is described as around 180cm tall, with a fair complexion, muscular build and light brown hair. He was wearing jeans, a black t-shirt with red print and red sneakers.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
