Northcliffe lifesaver Shannon Eckstein won the first round of the Ironman Series in tough conditions at Perth’s Scarborough Beach.
In challenging surf, up and comer Ali Day took out second place with Matt Poole third.
Day had won the individual ski race while Poole was first in the individual board race.
The women’s event was won by North Burleigh’s Brodie Moir, her first round victory.
Second overall was Courtney Hancock with Naomi Flood third.
“When I got second last year it gave me the motivation to train harder over the winter,” Moir said.
“It gave me the confidence and faith in myself I needed.”The opening individual board race was won by Candice Falzon, Rebecca Creedy took out the individual swim race and IronWoman race and Naomi Flood won the individual ski race.
