Burns after drug lab blast

A 34-year-old man is in Royal Perth Hospital with serious burns after a possible drug lab explosion in Vasse.

The man was flown to Perth last night after the explosion in a rented granny flat at the back of a home on Kookaburra Way.

The owner of the property and neighbours helped the man escape from the fire, before firefighters extinguished the flames.

Police said items consistent with drug manufacturing were found in the granny flat. The structure had been cordoned off for safety reasons.

The Organised Crime Squad’s chemical operations team have flown to Vasse to investigate the explosion.
