The cops want a word about wild party

Police want to speak to revellers about a wild weekend party where officers were pelted with bottles, rocks and other debris when they tried to disperse hundreds of mainly drunk youths.

Police hope the public will help them recognise those in images which were released yesterday.

The release came as police charged a 17-year-old who helped organise the Facebook-advertised party with trespass, alleging he did not have permission to hold the event on the private property in the southern suburbs where about 500 partygoers gathered in a disused shed.

When officers arrived in Piara Waters to shut down the party about 9pm on Saturday, they had to dodge bottles, bricks and poles thrown at them.

It took more than 70 police with dogs and horses about four hours to deal with the troublemakers.

One man was stabbed after an altercation and a window of an ambulance was smashed as it was driven through the chaos to reach the injured man.

Police picked up the 17-year-old organiser at his parents' Hills home early yesterday and questioned him for several hours about the out-of-control gathering before charging him by summons.

Inquiries are continuing into other offences, including allegations revellers were asked to pay a $10 entry fee.

Wanted by police

The teenager waved as he was driven from Cannington police station yesterday afternoon and posted a message on Facebook soon afterwards.

Police unsuccessfully hunted for another organiser, who claimed on Facebook he was not to blame for the trouble.

Last night, a 16-year-old youth was charged with assault of a public officer after he was identified through the images released by police.

Acting Insp. Chris Adams urged those in the pictures to contact police before they were tracked down.

"Police will continue to pursue them until they are identified and located," he said.
