$500,000 linked to gang

Phoebe Wearne, The West Australian Updated August 1, 2012, 1:35 pm

UPDATE: 1:35pm Police believe the $500,000 seized during a traffic stop in Noranda was money the Comanchero bikie gang made through the illegal drug trade.

A 52-year-old man was taken into custody after officers allegedly found more than $500,000 cash, a hand gun and ammunition in his possession last night.

He was charged with offences including aggravated possession of a firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm. He will appear at Perth Magistrates Court on August 16.

The man is believed to be an associate of the Comanchero motorcycle club, not a patch member. Police say the seizure will make an impact of the Comancheros operations in WA.

Police stopped the man's VW Golf on Bramwell Road in Noranda about 9.30pm to do a routine traffic stop and allegedly located the massive sum of cash in the vehicle.

They later executed a search warrant at the man's Burns Beach home and allegedly located the hand gun and ammunition.
