UPDATE 11.15am: A car which caught fire when it smashed into a school bus was extinguished by a quick-thinking passerby in Spearwood this morning.
The car caught fire after it collided with the mini-bus carrying five school children at the intersection of Garden Road and Bilcich Gardens about 8.15am. The bus had stopped.
A witness who arrived a few minutes after the crash said a man driving past in a black commodore jumped out and used an extinguisher to douse the flames.
It was unclear if he was carrying the extinguisher in his car or if it came from the school bus, she said.
A garden hose was also used to put out the fire. The blaze was extinguished by the time fire fighters arrived.

The woman was leaning into the door of the bus when the accident occurred. She was hit on her hip by the door, the witness said.
The injured woman’s five year old son was on the bus at the time.
The woman was taken to Fremantle hospital with suspected hip, back and pelvis injuries.
Some of the children were shaken by the incident and burst into tears, but were quickly calmed, the witness said.She said the driver of the vehicle appeared uninjured.
