A man tried to rob a bottle shop armed with a sawn off shotgun last night.

At about 7.45pm, the man went into the Greenmount Liquor Store on Old York Road, pointed the gun at the assistant and demanded money.

The owner of the store confronted the man and threw a bag at him and the offender fled empty handed.

The man is described as aged in his late teens, about 170cm tall and slim and was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
