A man has been rushed to hospital after he was struck with a samurai sword several times during an attempted car jacking in Girrawheen last night.

The 24-year-old Joondalup man and his 20-year-old girlfriend were inside their parked black Mercedes sedan on Stoke Court when a man armed with a samurai sword approached them about 8pm.

The man demanded the male victim get out of the car and hand over the keys.

The offender then struck the victim to the head several times with the sword before fleeing empty handed.

The woman was unharmed.

The victim was taken to Joondalup hospital with wounds to his head and face.
