The State Government has announced it will grant $40,000 to the Shire of Augusta Margaret River to help "lift spirits" of those affected by last year's bushfires.
Premier Colin Barnett, who is in Margaret River this evening to open the shire's new administration centre, said he hoped the money would be used to fund community-based initiatives to help support residents.
"I understand the fire has had a devastating and ongoing impact on some residents," he said.
"I hope this funding helps the Shire to undertake community-based activities to help lift spirits in the local community."Mr Barnett said the fire-ravaged region was "much loved" by West Australians and had experienced a rapid population growth in the past 15 years, with an estimated population of about 13,000 last year.
