FESA warns of Wannamal blaze

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority has urged people in Wannamal in the Shire of Chittering to flee their homes as a fast-moving bushfire passes through the area.

FESA said the fire had crossed Bindoon-Moora Road and was burning in a north westerly direction towards Wannamal.

"There is a possible threat to lives and homes… and conditions are changing," FESA said.

FESA said flames from the fire, which was reported at 1.18pm, were reaching 20 metres high and had already burnt 200ha.

Eighty career and volunteer firefighters are at the scene supported by helitacs.

The Bindoon Moora Road has been closed and residents are urged to meet at the Bindoon Hall on Great Northern Highway, Bindoon.
