Man bites cobra to death in Nepal

A farmer in Nepal who was bitten by a cobra has retaliated by biting it to death.

The BBC reports Mohammed Salmodin took the advice from a snake charmer who told him "nothing will happen" if you bite a snake after it has attacked.

"When I realised that a snake had bit me, I went home to get a torch and saw that it was a cobra. So I bit it to death," he told BBC Nepali's Bikram Niraula in Biratnagar.

The bite took place in a village 200km south-east of Kathmandu.

The man was also quoted as saying he could have killed the animal with a stick but "bit it with my teeth" because he was "angry".

Police official Niraj Shahi said the man was receiving treatment at a health post in the village and his injuries were not life-threatening.

He will not be charged with killing the snake because it was not among an endangered species in Nepal.
