He can juggle, ride a unicycle and perform acrobatics - talents he used at the 1994 Glastonbury Festival.

But these days Alex Marshall prefers to watch others entertain as director of the Fremantle Street Arts Festival, the biggest of its kind in Australia.

Presented by the City of Fremantle, performers will pop up on busker pitches over the Easter weekend from Saturday, March 30 to Monday, April 1.

Marshall's aim is to challenge preconceptions of street performance with fun, exciting family shows.

Acts from France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, the US, Japan and Britain will join leading local acts.

Headlining is French troupe Bilbobasso, which fuses the tango with fire dancing.
