ECU lecturer 'secretly marked exams'

A former Edith Cowan University senior lecturer has been charged by the Corruption and Crime Commission with nine counts of corruption involving $83,000.

The 52-year-old Joondalup man allegedly got his estranged wife a job with the university as a tutor and exam marker, but did her work for her.

He allegedly carried out the work between 2008 and 2012 while he was also employed at ECU, knowing the university would not agree to that arrangement.

The CCC alleges the money was paid into a joint bank account held by the couple and used to pay the mortgage on a jointly-owned property.

ECU vice-Chancellor Kerry Cox said the university notified the CCC and started its own investigation as soon as it became aware of the allegations of misconduct.

“ECU’s investigation found that at no point was the educational experience for our students affected negatively,” he said.
