WA Lotto winner is $20m richer

MICHELLE WHEELER, The West Australian March 1, 2013, 8:08 am

One West Australian has picked up the entire Division 1 prize pool in Powerball Lotto, collecting $20 million.

The prize is the fourth largest ever to be won in WA and the biggest since November 2011, when a Heathridge couple won $20 million in OZ Lotto.

The largest Lotto win ever in WA was $30 million in 2001 and 2007.

Changes are set to be introduced to Powerball today that Lotterywest says will deliver bigger jackpots more often and more winners every week with better overall odds of winning a prize.

Lotterywest chief executive Jan Stewart said she was delighted a WA player had picked up the jackpot.

“This is a wonderful way to celebrate the success and popularity of Powerball over the last 17 years and to welcome in the new game structure,” she said.

Last night’s winning numbers were 5, 44, 14, 3, 24 and the Powerball number 5.

Two WA Lotto players also took home a Division 2 prize worth $112,758.
