Teen saves friend from car fire

A teenager has saved the life of his friend when he pulled him from a burning car in Beverley last night.

The two men were in a Ford ute heading west on Bremner Road at about 7.45pm when the driver lost control on a bend in the road.

The ute hit a tree and caught fire.

The 18-year-old passenger freed himself from the wreckage, before realising the driver’s hair had caught fire.

He dragged his friend, an 18-year-old man, out the smashed rear window of the truck and got him to a nearby dam where he could douse the flames.

The driver was flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC rescue helicopter and the passenger was taken by ambulance for treatment.

Both men received serious injuries in the crash and were still receiving treatment in Royal Perth Hospital this morning.

The driver was this morning in a serious but stable condition and the passenger was stable.

Police are asking for witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
