A boy has died after he was hit by a truck in Ellenbrook this afternoon.

The 13-year-old was crossing Gnangara Road with his 14-year-old sister when he lost one of his thongs. He was hit by a sand truck when he turned back to get the thong at about 12.45pm.

Police and the Major Crash unit are at the scene investigating the incident.

The truck driver is being treated for shock and the parents are being consoled at the scene.

Two ambulance crews are attending.

Police have cordoned off Gnangara Road between Lord Street and Henley Brook Avenue. Part of Losino Boulevard is also closed.

Traffic is busy in the area and motorists are being urged to use alternative routes.
