A Success man has faced court accused of punching a police horse during an incident in Northbridge last month.

Tory Joseph Bowen, 20, appeared in the Perth Magistrate's Court this morning charged with one offence each of obstructing police, disorderly behaviour, animal cruelty and two charges of assaulting a public officer.

The alleged incident occurred about 11.25pm on November 23 when police attempted to intervene in an altercation between the man and another group in the Northbridge Piazza.

When police attempted to restrain him, he is accused of hitting an officer before he allegedly punched a police horse called Mr Bojangles and a mounted police officer trying to assist.

Appearing in court for the first time this morning, Mr Bowen applied for an adjournment for legal advice.

He was released on bail to face court again on January 15.
