Update, 4pm: A man has been killed in a workplace accident in the southern industrial suburb of Naval Base this afternoon.

A Worksafe spokeswoman said early reports were that the man died when he was buried alive after he fell into a silo full of sand.

She said an investigator was at the scene probing the circumstances surrounding the death.

The incident happened at BGC’s Kwinana plant on Beard Street just after midday.

A Fire and Emergency Services Auhority spokeswoman said the agency was alerted to the incident at 12.15pm.

Fire and rescue officers from Fremantle, Hope Valley, Kwinana, Murdoch and Rockingham stations and the special risks operation crew attended the scene.

They were stood down at 1.13pm and the matter was handed over to police.

Police and St John Ambulance are at the scene.
