UPDATE 11.40am: A body has been found inside a house destroyed by a fire in Sawyers Valley this morning.

Firefighters were called out to the blaze on Throssell Street at what was initially thought to be an abandoned house about 6.41am.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control by about 7am.

Police said that early indications suggested a hydroponic cannabis set-up was at the premises.

Fire crews are still blacking out the home as arson squad investigators search the scene for clues as to the cause of the fire.

The fire destroyed the weatherboard home, with only the tin roof withstanding the intensity of the blaze.

A neighbour told thewest.com.au that she heard several explosions about 6.30am and awoke to discover the home alight.

She said she called 000 to be told the incident had been recorded as a scrub fire.

It is understood the person inside the home at the time of the fire was a man who had been renting the cottage over 18 months.

The man is originally from Sydney and moved to Perth in late 2010.
