One dead after road trains collide

TAYISSA BARONE, The West Australian September 1, 2012, 8:45 am

A truck driver has been killed in the Gascoyne this morning after his road train collided with another truck on the North West Coastal Highway.

The man was driving south, about 50km north of the Minilya roadhouse just after midnight when he hit the rear trailer of another road train heading north.

The southbound truck burst into flames after impact and the driver died at the scene.

The other truck driver escaped serious injury.

Volunteer fire crews from Exmouth, Carnarvon and Coral Bay attended.

Major crash investigators are expected to travel to the crash site today.

North West Coastal Highway is closed to all traffic between Minilya Exmouth Road and Burkett Road, which also act as a detour.
