UPDATE 11:50am: A 47-year-old man died after falling from a cherry picker while trimming trees in South Perth this morning.

It is believed two men were pruning trees at a block of highrise units when the cherry picker’s boom snapped and they fell about nine metres.

The second man survived the fall.

Worksafe is investigating the incident.

A police spokeswoman said the tree lopper had fallen 40 metres on to the roof of a carport at a property on Mill Point Road, between Parker and Onslow streets, just before 8am.

Fire crews from Perth and Kensington and St John Ambulance attended.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Worksafe inspectors were at the scene this morning and are expected to interview witnesses and investigate the circumstances of the death.

Worksafe acting executive director Ian Munns said any work-related death was a tragedy and offered his condolences to the man’s family.
