5600ha burnt out

Firefighters were yesterday battling 17 bushfires in the Esperance and Dundas shires in woodland and mallee country that were lit by lightning strikes last Sunday night.

About 5600 hectares had been burnt out early yesterday afternoon with crews from the Department of Environment Conservation, Department of Fire and Emergency Services and volunteer bushfire brigades in attendance.

The DFES issued a bushfire advice for people travelling on the Eyre Highway between Norseman and Eucla, the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway between Norseman and Salmon Gums, and Parmango Road between Balladonia Roadhouse and Esperance.

“Although there is no immediate danger, drivers need to be aware and keep up to date,” a DFES spokesperson said.
