St Georges Terrace came alive with the vibrant colours of the Kimberley when a banner painted by children at St Joseph’s Primary School was displayed at the annual Banners in the Terrace competition last month.

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley and St Joseph’s Primary School was awarded a high commendation in the upper primary school category.

The banner was designed by Kununurra resident John Polglase and painted by children in Years 6 and 7.

The annual Banners in the Terrace competition is run by the WA Local Government Association.

Each council is invited to enter one banner designed by a school in the local area.

The winning banners are displayed along St Georges Terrace for the duration of WA Local Government Week.

The theme of “new opportunities new ground” gave rise to designs by schools from councils around WA.

The local banner shows the Cockburn ranges in the background, with waterfalls, boab trees, diamonds and barramundi throughout the picture.

Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley president John Moulden thanked the children for contributing to the award-winning banner.
