A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was stabbed in the arm following a car-jacking in NSW's Riverina.
A woman was standing near her car at a Wagga Wagga mall on Tuesday morning when a man approached her from behind.
Police say the man, armed with a knife, demanded her car keys before stealing her white Ford Falcon.
The car was spotted on four occasions and police gave chase, but the pursuits were called off due to safety concerns.
The man abandoned the car and fled after allegedly crashing the car at Lavington.
A police officer chased after him and a struggle broke out, during which he was allegedly stabbed in the arm.
The injured officer used capsicum spray and was able to arrest the man.
The man was charged with a string of offences including attempted murder, assaulting police causing grievous bodily harm and car-jacking.
He was also charged for other car-jackings in Wagga Wagga and Orange.The man was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court on Wednesday.
