A man is fighting for life in hospital and a police officer has been injured after a brawl on a Melbourne street.
Police said the man was injured during one of a number of altercations in Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, involving up to 100 people early on Sunday morning.
He was taken to the Alfred Hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition.
An 18-year-old Sunshine man has been charged with affray and bailed.
Police said an officer was knocked unconscious during the altercation.
Detective Sergeant Graeme Savage said the officer had been trying to calm the situation down when he was assaulted.
"It's an absolute disgrace what has happened to a member of our organisation who is just there simply doing his job," he told reporters.
"He has been hit from behind. It's a cowardly act."
A few hours earlier, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed twice and a 17-year-old boy received head injuries in a brawl at a party in Deer Park.
Up to 200 youths attended the party, which was in a hall.
Police were called and dispersed the crowd.
The 15-year-old boy was taken to the Royal Children's Hospital in a stable condition.
The 17-year-old was taken to Sunshine Hospital and released early on Sunday morning.Police are looking for two men who they believe might be able to assist their inquires.
