Strong winds in the NSW Blue Mountains are preventing waterbombing of fires burning in the region as conditions deteriorate.
RFS spokesman Ben Shepherd has told reporters winds up to 80km/h have forced water bombing helicopters to suspend operations over fires at Lithgow, Springwood and Mt Victoria.
He says there is still an aircraft in the mountains monitoring the fires.
RFS Commission Shane Fitzsimmons said it was a tactical decision based on the advice of aviation and operational experts out on the field."The feedback that I've got is that the winds are presenting some challenges to effective aerial operations," he told media at RFS headquarters.
