Aussie found dead at Bali hotel

AAP, The West Australian February 8, 2013, 12:16 pm

Indonesian police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of an Australian man found in his hotel room in Bali.

The 65-year-old man was discovered by hotel staff in his room at the Bali Hyatt in the popular holiday area of Sanur yesterday.

Denpasar Police detective Andhika Fitransyah confirmed the man, named as Igor Janco, had head injuries including bruising to his face.

“The victim was found naked, laying with face down on the bed. Around him we found some blood,” Mr Fitransyah said.

However, Mr Fitransyah added that it was likely that the Slovakian-born man had fallen and hit his head.

His room has been locked from the inside and it did not appear that any of his belongings had been taken.

“We also found an empty wine bottle, a wallet with rupiah and Australian dollar, and iPhone recharger in the bathroom,” Mr Fitransyah said.

Mr Janco’s body has been taken to Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital for further examination.

It is understood Mr Janco checked into the hotel on February 1.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra confirmed he was found yesterday.

“We can confirm that a 65-year-old Australian man was found dead in Bali on 7 February,” she said.
