Telstra crash boots millions of users

AAP, The West Australian February 23, 2012, 12:33 pm

Telstra’s internet service has crashed Australia-wide, knocking an estimated three million users offline for about an hour.

The carrier lost connectivity at 1.50pm (AEDT) on Thursday, and while many customers were reconnected by 3pm, Telstra is still trying to figure out what went wrong.

Telstra spokeswoman Karina Keisler said the crash affected customers in every state.

“The cause of the outage is unclear at this stage, and while it’s since been restored, we’re working quickly to try to identify the cause,” she said.

Microblogging site Twitter was inundated with posts from users venting their confusion and frustration.

Telstra posted the following message on its Twitter page about 2.30pm: “As you have noticed some of you may be experiencing intermittent internet access. This is being investigated as a priority.”
