Fremantle coach Ross Lyon says he would pay Hawthorn’s Lance Franklin $1.5 million a year to come to the club.
Commenting on rumours Collingwood power forward Travis Cloke might be lured to new club Greater Western Sydney by an offer like the one Gold Coast used to prise Gary Ablett from Geelong, Lyon said there were "clearly" $1.5 million a year players in the AFL these days.
The AFL’s annual salary cap figures released this week revealed that two players (Ablett and an unknown second player) were now being paid in excess of $1 million per year.
"I tell you what, I would give Buddy $1.5 million tomorrow, there you go," Lyon said.
Commenting on the alleged Cloke offer Lyon quipped: "Half his luck. It is a lot of money.
"He is an elite power forward of the competition in a grand final and premier team. He has got his best football in front of him and market forces will determine what he is worth.
"I am sure that he will work his way through that."
Ablett and Judd were "clearly" worth over $1 million a year "if you take in ASAs and marketing," he said.
Lyon, in Esperance as part of Fremantle’s community camp, said WA’s south coastal town was clearly a beautiful part of the world and he had enjoyed his two day stay there.
"It is beautiful down here. To come in and enjoy the weather. I went to twilight beach and it is just spectacular. I am glad I have experienced it and I think I will bring the young family down here for a break at some point," he said.
"It is a glorious part of the world.
"The players have immersed themselves in the community, we have reached 2000 kids and a cross section of the business community through a few talks and obviously passionate members of the Dockers last night.
"It has been wide reaching."Sponsored links

Ridiculous comment by Ross Lyon. The players are over paid as it is. Fancy a footballer being paid more than the Prime Minister......
1 ReplyI'd pay 1.5mil to get Buddy at the Saints. We would get our money back in sponsorship offers alone! Of course a player is worth that much...if they repay it back with benefits like a flag!
ReplyBuddy is a winner not a loser so he will never be at fleamantle. dream on Ross you loser.
ReplyI agree with ya cuzz, players are payed too much, but the diff between buddy and the prime minister is, buddy performs and does what he is paid to do, and still accountable to the club, where as Gillard does not perform and disregards the taxpayers she suppose to serve, I say buddy for prime minister.
