Bushfire tearing through Boronia Ridge

A bushfire is threatening homes and lives in the Boronia Ridge area, west of Walpole, with the Fire and Emergency Services advising people to put their survival plans into action.

FESA says the bushfire is moving slowly in an easterly direction towards South Coast Hwy at about 100 metres per hour. The fire is burning in thick coastal vegetation around the Walpole Inlet, and access is difficult.

Embers are likely to be blown around homes and may start spot fires.

The Department of Environment and Conservation was alerted to the fire at 9.45am and there has been 20 hectares burnt.

More than 30 officers are on the ground fighting the blaze. Emergency services personnel from WA Police and FESA are working with DEC.

FESA said residents should relocate now if that is their choice because waiting until the last minute can have deadly consequences.

Residents in the Walpole area are being told to be alert for signs of fire.
