Thousands of West Australians have donned lycra and helmets and hopped on their bikes to take part in the State's largest single day cycling event this morning- the HBF Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma.
Organisers hope the annual event will raise more than $100,000 for asthma education and support services.
About 2650 cyclists departed the Kwinana Train Station car park this morning to begin a 60km ride.
More than 4000 cyclists made their way through the Graham Farmer Freeway for the 30km leg of the hike, while 2000 people set off from Greenwood Train Station for a 10km ride at 10.30am.
All riders will finish at the City of Joondalup Village and will celebrate with food, drink prizes and entertainment.
Motorists are advised the south-bound lanes of the Mitchell Freeway from Hodges Drive will remain closed until noon.
Hodges Drive, east-bound, from the Mitchell Freeway and the intersection of Joondalup Drive and Grand Boulevard are closed until 2pm.
Grand Boulevard is closed from the intersection of Joondalup Drive to Shenton Avenue until 2pm.Sponsored links

I’m looking forward to next weekend when the most important bicycle tracks in Perth are closed to cyclists and open to motor vehicles.

3 RepliesWhere was the signage for the week before saying that the freeway is closed on Sunday. Once we figured out that it was closed and went online to the Main Roads site it said that the freeway was open from 9.30. The entrances from the city opened closer to 10AM, causing a batch of frustrated people to be queuing at the Murray St freeway south entry.
2 RepliesAll the overhead signs on the Freeway & major arterial roads have been signposted for over a week so you either dont travel the freeway or you drive with your eyes closed.
Replyoops sorry I meant Ian
