Jimmy Barnes has announced he will perform at this year's AFL grand final.

The AFL revealed today that the Australian rocker will also be joined by former Hunters and Collectors frontman Mark Seymour as part of the pre-match entertainment.

The cast from the musical Jersey Boys have been given the honour of singing the national anthem.

Despite playing hundreds of venues during his 30 years in the music business, Barnes has never performed at an AFL grand final before. It is the third time for Seymour who was part of the pre-match entertainment in 1998 and 2002.

Previous singers include Rolf Harris, John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John and Angry Anderson whose 1991 performance led to an advert mocking his efforts.
